In Memory or Honor of...

A small rural church school in Marmalade, Haiti is the beneficiary of lots of loved ones from Celebration Community Beach Church in Naples, Florida.Yesterday I went to the post office to check for Help for Haiti mail and found a check from Celebration Community Beach Church for $7,247. This was the proceeds from their Haiti Block Party where members of the church bought cement Blocks for $6.00 each to build two new rooms at the church school in Marmalade. The members of the Celebration Church bought over 1200 blocks and provided enough to complete the two rooms from foundation to new roof. One room is a secure room with a steel door to store Manna Pack food to feed the 250 kids a lunch every day at school and to store a generator when the school day is over. The second room is to bring the kindergarten class from under a tarp attached to one side of the building into a room of their own. Many of the donations were made in memory of or to honor friends and relatives. What an awesome way to bring honor and memory to a loved one, knowing lives in a desperate and hurting part of the world will be changed because of this act of generosity. Every dollar will go to the building program and because the goal of $6000 was exceeded, $1247 will go to help pay the teachers of these children. Help for Haiti has committed to pay the 8 teachers $60 per month for 10 months of the school year. This money is to supplement the pay the school provides with a goal of having each teacher receive $100 per month, or $1000 per year. We believe it is important that the parents help pay for their school. Can we really imagine working for ten months for $600 to $1000? Yet they come, they teach and they hope for the future of these kids. You would like these teachers. The following is the list of those who are being remembered or honored by the members of Celebration Community Beach Church. Thank you Gene, Gordy, and Bill for making this happen.
